Jane Lilita Bell

December 14, 1939 - January 12, 2022

On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, Jane Lilita Bell (Janie) loving mother of six children passed away at the age of 82. She was born on December 14, 1939 in Washington, DC to the late Walter Howard and Eleanor Jane Bell. She was born and raised in Washington, DC and attended District of Columbia Public Schools. She was among integrated students while attending Anacostia High School when the Supreme Court reached the ruling to end segregation. Janie worked as a data entry operator and held positions at the Department of the Army, Ferris and Company, Aztec Computer Consulting Firm, Hogan and Hartson Law Firm, and the Teamsters Union. Later in life she would hold positions at Begg Realty, the Shakespeare Theatre and Georgetown Park Office Condominium. Janie also volunteered with the Superior Court of the District of Columbia as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). Janie had a jovial spirit, was always looking out for others, and offered advice to those seeking it. So much so, she became the neighborhood mom to many young people in the neighborhood. She loved spending time with her children, and enjoyed reading, especially the Bible. Janie was preceded in death by her parents Walter Howard and Eleanor Jane Bell, her grandson Anthony Easton II (Malik), her sister Doris West, her brother Walter A. Bell, and sisters-in-law Bertha Bell and Karmel Bell. She leaves to cherish her memory six children: Tonya Napier (Bernard), Torkwase Peterson (Eric), Michelle Jones, Valarie Jones, Mark Jones, and Jerry Mack; fourteen grandchildren: Sakeena Easton, Tiana Easton, Darren Jones, Jabari Peterson, Kitwana Peterson, Kamau Peterson, Tyrae Hoke, Tiffany Gaskins, Tamiyah Smith, Zoi Jones, Kelby Chichester, Jaylin Chichester, Karly Chichester, and Santana Mack; eight great grandchildren: Shakeela Lamons, Ronald Easton, Christopher Coles, Jr., Caylei Marbley, Ah'Ziah Jones, Ah'Zar Smith, Zayden Smith, and Zola Smith; seven siblings: Ernest Bell, Thomas Bell, Shirley Garcia, Ronald Bell (Kathleen), Gloria Moore, Brenda Bell, and Clifford Bell (Margo) along with a host of nieces and nephews.
