Lucille Russell

Lucille Russell was born on May 8,1942 in Middleburg, NC to the late Emma Ruth Plummer and the late Raymond Glasco. She departed this life on Saturday, December 17, 2016. She attended Henderson Institute up until the ninth grade. On January 4, i960, she married her loving and devoted husband, Leroy Russell. They were married 46 years prior to his passing on October 2, 2006. To this union they were blessed with three sons: Leroy Russell, Jr. (Antoinette) of Santa Rancho Marqarita, CA; James Melvin Russell (Dana) of Brandywine, MD; Eugene Russell of Clinton, MD; two daughters: Laverne Jenkins (Mack) of Cheverly, MD; and Elizabeth Ann Russell-Jones of Clinton, MD. She also leaves 10 grandchildren: Christopher, Tenesha, Ashley, Letitia, Ericka, Chelsea, Amber, Gerald, Briana, and Autumn; one great grandson, Elijah. After moving to Washington, DC, she worked as a supervisor at the Kennedy Center from 1975 to 1980. She enjoyed meeting different people from all walks of life. Some of the famous people she met include: Elizabeth Taylor, John Wayne, Sammy Davis, Jr., Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, and Bill Cosby (just to name a few). After leaving the Kennedy Center she worked for Howard University as a supervisor for the custodian department from 1980 until her retirement in 2007. During her leisure time she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She especially loved her grandchildren calling her and telling on their parents. She enjoyed watching game shows such as Family Feud and Who Wants to be a Millionaire, just to name a few. She loved to also complete “Seek and Find” word books. She was best known for her sweet potato pies and North Carolina barbeque. She really just loved sitting on the front porch and enjoying God’s creation! She leaves to cherish her memory five brothers: Jimmie Plummer (Helen-deceased) of Temple Hills, MD; Raymond Glasco (Ava) of Colorado Springs, CO; Walter Howard Plummer (Linda) of Ft. Washington, MD; Joie Glasco (Shanna) of Kenilworth, NJ; and William Plummer (LeRoi) of Hillsborough, NC. She also is survived by five sisters: Minister Emma Lou Bailey (Marvin) of Suitland, MD; Rev. Dr. Joann Ward (Oscar) of Ft. Washington, MD; Pastor Bobbiann Williams (Willie) of Rocky Mount, NC; Edith Maree (David) of Linden, NC; and Willie Glasco of North Plainfield, NJ. She was preceded in death by Robert Plummer, Larry Glasco, Lewis Plummer, Mary Glasco, and Linda Plummer-Potts. She also leaves four sisters-in-law: Deacon Hattigreen Bullock of Manson, NC; Olivia Burnett (Alvis) of Manson, NC; Cynthia Russell of Philadelphia, PA; and Bernice Russell of Henderson, NC; three brothers-in-law: Joe Lewis Russell (Dorothy) of Manson, NC; and James Evans Russell (Gloria) of Uniondale, NY; and Willie Potts of South Carolina. She was preceded in death by Marry Pettyway, Annie Henderson, Everette Lee Russell, Charles Russell, and William Russell. She also leaves a god daughter, Voni Eason, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
